Have you ever owned a bank account in Australia and forgot it existed ?
Surprisingly many people have.
If the account has not been used for over 7 years, the money may have been transferred from the original bank to the Commonwealth Government.
Each year the Department of the Treasury produces a publication titled 'Do We Have Any of Your Money ?' It contains a list of all accounts transferred to the Commonwealth in the previous calendar year and gives details of account owners, their addresses and the name of the bank and the state in which the account was held.
The following link was discovered by M. McGovern who rightly points out 'Isn't it strange the way other countries are so forthcoming about unclaimed assets compared to the UK'.
The free database of Unclaimed Moneys is frequently updated so keep checking. If you are successful - Keep us informed.
